Now Team 26 looks for a lucky break
The Grand Prix of the Sea title and BladeRun Rally - starting from Rotterdam on July 14th - remain firmly in the sights of powerboat duo Kim Collins and Dan Cramphorn, whose Donzi 38 ZRC span out of the first championship race in Yalta, Ukraine, the boat suffering a broken drive shaft and Cramphorn a broken hand and wrist.
The British contenders are now preparing for Grand Prix of the Sea races in Malta and Sicily before ‘Winding down' for the three-day BladeRun Rally which departs from Rotterdam four days after the FIFA World Cup Final in South Africa.
"BladeRun is such an enjoyable way to enjoy powerboating, there are no pressures, it's relaxing and great fun," explains Collins. "It was BladeRun that gave us the appetite to go racing in the first place."
Cramphorn and Collins had planned to compete in the first ever European-organised event in their 2011 world championship design, but the Burnico 41 is still under construction.
Continues Collins: "We plan to turn up in a 35ft surprise package and we aim to show that Britain still rules the waves. It will be even more appropriate if England have just won the World Cup!"
The 2010 BladeRun Rally heads from Rotterdam to Antwerp, returning to the Dutch city via Ostend on July 17th. 30 boats have already signed up.
